The Book Thief – Setting

task 1:

  • Research the historical events at the time in this place be selective accurate and include credit resources. (Time : Year, months, days, time of the year.

Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1939 which led to the outbreak of world war 2 and by 1941 Nazi forces had occupied much of Europe. The Jews had been faced against discrimination and persecution against jews this began in earnest after the seizure of power. Jews were imprisoned and liberals, socialists and communists were killed, imprisoned or exiled. In 1939 on November 23rd they required that all jews residing in the general government over the age of 10 wear white armbands with a star of David. On October 1940 daylight and night bombing raids on Britain (The Blitz) by the Luftwaffe were abandoned. Hitler also delayed and later abandoned plans to invade Britain. On the 3rd September 1939 Britain and France declared war on Germany.

The Book Thief was set in a town called Molching.

Task 2 – Write a paragraph comparing an incident from history to corresponding element in The Book Thief – and explore what you discover about the accuracy of the setting in the text.

An incident that happened from history that can be compared to The Book Thief is the holocaust that happened this is when the mass murder of 6 million European jews by the German nazi regime during the second world war.
